This post isn’t really as much self defense news as it is a bulletin . I just came across a brief article letting women in the Chandler Arizona area know there will be some free self defense classes happening this Friday.

If you’re a women of any age located in that area I would recommend checking it out. It appears United Studios of Self Defense will be offering free self defense classes for the day. This is a great way for you to gain some free self defense knowledge. Normally you would have to pay a fee to attend a class like this so getting it for free is a great value!

I would have to agree with what they outline in the article. Pepper spray can be an extremely important and effective self defense tool if used correctly. On the flip side if someone doesn’t take the time to learn about pepper spray than they will find themselves in big trouble. As an example if you’re faced with an attacker with the wind blowing back at you and you attempt to use pepper spray chances are you will end up with a face full of it. If that happens you are left in diar straights wide open to the attacker.

If you have considered using pepper spray, to keep yourself protected, it is very important to make sure you are educated on how to use it. All around the country classes can be found teaching proper self defense tactics. If you are unable to find one of these classes at least spend some time on Google researching proper pepper spray use. There is lots of great information on the internet that can teach you how to used pepper spray the way it is meant to be.

This is one of those stories that tends to create LOTS of debate. Last Thursday in Corpus Christi a 58 year old man was subdued by a Taser after resisting arrest. As a result he ended up in ICU. But there is more to the story than that.

Police attempted to stop the man after they saw him riding his bike on the wrong side of the road. He then proceeded to ride into a restaurant parking lot and start to bang on the establishments window. When the office attempted to cuff the suspect he began to violently struggle. Several other police officers arrived on the scene and attempted to subdue him with no luck. They opted to use a Taser to stop the suspect from fighting back. After the suspect was hit with the Taser’s probes he seemed to be unaffected, perhaps due to his several layers of clothing. They then used the Taser directly on his shoulder blade.

In the end it took 5 officers to finally get the man hand cuffed. Shorty after he he stopped breathing and was given CPR and taken to the hospital.

I feel Tasers and Stun Guns are an invaluable tool available to law enforcement and are used hundreds of times every week with no negative results. Unfortunately situations like this happen dirty the reputation of these valuable tools.
