Great way to catch someone that’s up to no good

Home Security 2 Comments »

Hey Hey everyone, I hope all is well. We’re still trying to shake all this rain up here in Maine(going on day 6 now) but it looks like it is supposed to be very nice out tomorrow.

Today I wanted to talk about a product that I seem to forget about every now and again.

It is our wireless mini wireless spy camera. It’s actually a remarkable little camera that is so small you can pretty much put it anywhere without it being noticed.

It comes in very handy in many situations. It can be used if you think your baby sitter or spouse is up to no good . It also works great as an almost invisible security camera. Like I mentioned it is also wireless so you can set it up in just a couple minutes. Once you have it set up you can place the receiver up to 300 feet away if you are outside or about 150 feet away inside a building. The receiver for the camera can hook up to any VCR or other video recording device to record full color video. But you have the option to hook it up to a TV so you are only monitoring.

I have talked to a lot of customers that have had great luck with this wireless spy camera. They have caught people on tape doing things like stealing money from them and many other unspeakable things.

I find it amazing the way people will act if they don’t think anyone is watching. Just look at all of the hidden camera shows that you see on TV. People do some dumb stuff.

So if you are looking for a great covert camera for your home than our mini wireless spy camera is for you.

I’ll leave it at that for today.

Until next time,

Barry

The Strobe Wireless Security System Will Keep Your Home Protected

Home Security No Comments »

I have talked a lot about how important it is to protect yourself during these tough economic times. Everyone knows when unemployment is this bad there are some people that get desperete and resort to things they had never thought of before. Protecting yourself from being a victim is more important than ever. But today I want to talk about keeping your home safe because there are many people out there that are looking to home invasion rather than mugging individuals.

There are many different ways to keep your home protected. These can be as simple as locking the doors and windows, all the way up to spending thousands of dolor’s on a high end security system. With the way the economy is right now I wouldn’t recommend getting a high end home security system unless you can truly afford it but I would recommend taking some extra steps beyond just making sure your windows and doors are locked. This is where some of our inexpensive burglar alarm set ups come in very handy.

The one I want to talk about today is our Strobe Wireless Security System. It is a fantastic alternative to the expensive professional security systems. With this package you will get several items for your homes protection. To start it off there is a passive infrared motion detector with a built in strobe. This motion detector can detect any motion within a 30 foot range. If something trips the alarm it will sound a VERY loud alarm and will begin to flash the strobe light.

Along with the motion detector it also comes with two glass break sensors that also double as magnetic window sensors. They are a very important part of keeping your home protected. The glass breaking sensor listens to the room and is able to detect if someone breaks a window in an attempt to gain entry into your home. The sensor also has a plug in magnetic detector that is made to sound the alarm is a window or sliding glass door is opened. This provides the multiple levels of security that is very important to make sure your home is as safe as possible.

The last piece that comes with the kit is an external siren with a strobe that is placed on the outside of your home. It is wirelessly connected to the other pieces of the system and if something trips the main alarms, whether it is the motion alarm, glass breaking, or window alarm, the main alarm in the house will sound along with this external siren and set off the strobe. This does a couple of great things. It will more than likely scare away the burglar because of the multiple alarms and strobe lights going off. Along with that it will also alert your neighbors that there is something going on at your home.

Finally to control the whole system it comes with two keychain remote controls to arm and disarm the system. If you accidently set off the alarm there is no need to fumble around trying to turn it off, all you have to do is push the button on the remote and it will turn off the alarm just like on your car. There is also a panic remote with a neck band. This is ideal for seniors. If you fall down and are unable to get back up you can push the button on the panic remote to set off the alarm alerting people that there is a problem over there.

Overall this is a highly effective and very inexpensive security system for your home. The overall cost of this is set up is by far cheaper (by close to 10x if not more) than any professional system that you will find. If you have a large house than you can get multiple packages and they will all work together. You could even have 3 of them in your home and have every little area protected and you would still be spending a very small percentage of what you would on one of the “high end” systems.

So if you are looking for a very reliable way to keep your home safe without having to spend a boat load of money than check out our Strobe wireless security system.

I’ll leave it at that for today. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Until next time,

Barry

Use The Onion Technique To Protect Your Home

Home Security No Comments »

Hello Everyone,

Today I want to talk about a nice little technique that works great for maximizing your home security.

Most people think all they have to do is go out and buy an security  system and they will be perfectly safe.  This surely not the case.  If you think about it, if you are living in an area that has a decent crime rate the response time of the police might be a little long between 10-20 minutes.  If that amount of time a team of 2 burglars could be in and out with a massive amount of items.

The best way to avoid this problem is by using a layering technique to keep you home safe.  The basic concept entails setting up your home security so each part works with another part to form layers.  By doing this it will make your home very unappealing to and would-be burglar. And if someone does get a little froggy and attempt to break in, the layers will make it down right aggravating to get inside.

I’ll give you an example of how this set up will work:

Let’s start on the outside of you house.  There are several things you could use.  I would start by putting up motion lights in any area that is dark and where it is uncommon for people to be after dark.  So if someone is snooping around they will be lite up by a nice bright light.

Next I would use rose bushes or other sharp plants under all of your windows.  So if that sneaking criminal decides to risk being out there in your bright lights he will have a real hard time climbing over the rose bushes.  Most people do not want to get cut up while they are trying to break into a home.

On top of the rose bushes I would use a window jam on all of the windows.  These work great to hold them close in case the lock is popped.  And they can be easily removed if you need to use the windows while you are inside.  So now if that burglar decides to brave the light and the rose bushes he will be surprised to find even after popping the lock on the window he cant get it open.

For the inside you can use motion detector alarms that face your doors and windows.  So if that crazy crook makes through the light and the rose bush and then smashes your window the motion alarms will sound and scare him away.

Lastly you can use a couple small security cameras so if he is crazy enough to stick around after the alarms go off you can at least get him on camera.

Do you see how each of the items works with the others? This is the perfect method for your home security. The whole point is to make it down right frustrating for a burglar to get into your house. The chances are once they see the lights outside and realize the have to climb over a sharp plant they are going to move on. But just in case you have several other layers just to make it even harder.

If the only home security measure you have is a security alarm that there is a much greater risking of have a successful home invasion. The burglar would have probably cased your house and found all of the easy ways to get in. All he would have to do is break a window and get inside. Then he can take at least 5 minutes to run around and grab anything he wants before the police are even close to getting there.

If you have the layers the chances of someone wanting to burglarize you is much lower and if they try they will probably fail.

I hope this gives everyone out there some good information on keeping you home safe. It is always good to be prepared. You never know when a home invasion will happen and trust me, when it does it is very traumatic.

How The Housing Crisis Effects Your Safety

Home Security No Comments »

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to talk today about an interesting article I read today.

This play off from what I have wrote about before, the economy going down and crime rates going up. This is more geared towards foreclosure rates and how they effect you.

With foreclosure rates at an all time high it is changing the land scape of neighbor hoods every day. There are many houses that are empty due to foreclosure and they have just been abandoned. With many empty houses in a neighbor hood that has a tendency to bring different types of crime in that area and has a negative impact of how law enforcement can deal with those issues.

When a area has empty house it because more common for individuals to break into those home to steal things such has copper piping which can cause a home to flood. There are many junk yards out there that will buy copper piping if you bring it to them. So many people will break into abandon homes and literally cut all the copper piping out of it. In turn the law enforcement agencies have to respond the issue, taking time and money away from other crimes that are happening out there.

On top of that, abandon houses are a haven for drug dealers and prostitutes to move into. They are always looking for a base of operations and an abandon house is perfect for it. This can bring many unsavory characters into her neighbor hood and also cause law enforcement to be stretched thin to try and deal with the issue.

Another down side to house being foreclosed on is less home taxes that are being paid for that area. If less taxes are being paid it makes it harder for the city and state to pay law enforcement officers and may have to possibly cut some positions. This creates a negative feed back loop. The more houses that are foreclosed on can bring more crime. That crime may cause the remaining people in those neighborhoods to move, and in turn there are even less taxes being paid which may result in the lost of more law enforcement jobs.

This is not a good cycle by any means and for the most part the experts out there agree that this will surely cause a rise in crime rates. As an example back when Wall Street fell back in 1987 the crime rate skyrocketed. And it has already started to happen and will probably get much worse.

Normal people like you and me don’t have very much control over this situation. The only thing we can do is protect ourselves and report crime when we see it happening.

I recommend that everyone out there do some research about self defense products and figure out which is best for you. As you all know, this is something I preach about a lot. Not just because I sell self defense products, but because I know the importance of keeping yourself safe.

I have said it before, go out and check around at the different options. We have a great selection of stuff but if you want to look elsewhere go for it. All that matters to me is making sure people understand the dangers out there and the different ways to stay safe.

There are so many different types of self defense products out there. There are stun guns, batons, keychain pepper spray, mace, and so many other choices. Figure out which one is the best option for you and get it.

Until Next Time,

Barry

Our Self Defense Product Blog Now Open

Home Security No Comments »

Hello everyone, This is Barry Carey here.  I’m the owner of Protection Direct, an online store that offers self defense products including pepper spray, stun guns, and home security products as well.

For today’s post I want to talk about something that happened to me that blew me away.  I recently moved into a new house in totally different neighbor hood. It was a nice location so I figured the risk of crime would be low.

Stupid me

The house hadn’t been lived in for about a year so it was pretty musty on the inside. I had all the windows in the house opened up while i was home. We had just finished moving all of our stuff in so I hadn’t had the chance to hook up our security system or cameras. I figured there wouldn’t be a huge rush because it seemed like a pretty good neighborhood.

So after puttering around for awhile I found there was several things I need to pick up at the hardware store…New doorknobs, deadbolts and a few other things. So we closed most of the windows but we decided to leave the upstairs windows open.

That wasn’t too bright

We take off and we were gone for maybe an hour then we came back and our front door was wide open. I would imagine you can understand my shock. After going inside I noticed there was a bunch of stuff missing. Including a couple really big boxed full of some of my self defense products and one that was entirely full of pepper spray, along with my high end stereo system and TV.

I was completely blow away, we had been going for an hour and this had happened. It was a serious laps of judgment on my part.

I made the false assumption that this neighborhood was good and there would be a really low risk of any crimes. That was the wrong thing to think, and don’t get me wrong I know better than to ever think like that. But being swept up in the excitement of moving into a new home clouded my judgment a bit.

That is one mistake I will never make again, not only was it violating but a pretty big chip in my ego, I sell self defense and home security products for a living and I failed to keep myself safe.

The point I want to make to everyone is, no matter how comfortable you are in the area you live never under estimate the audacity of the common criminal. When you least expect it they strike and the result is usually never good.

So when you leave home make sure all of your windows are locked and the doors are locked as well. All it takes is one person to think you house looks pretty good, then they case it out and find that one window that is unlocked and then BAM you lose a bunch of stuff.

Thats gonna do it for today, I just wanted to share this story with everyone because it goes to show that even the experts can have a lapse in judgment from time to time and it’s all the more reason to stay on top of your home security.
